today i received the below email from one of the guys i do contract work for... i love working for people like this. we were discussing a few of the current editorial projects we have going, and the conversation went something like this:
me: "bla bla bla, about permissions policies, bla bla bla and about the research database..."
him (abruptly): "chad, i have to go"
me: "really?"
him: "yes... bye"

later that day i received this email from him:
"Sorry I hung up so abrubtly today. A police chase and potential shooting was ready to take place right in front of the Coney Island where I was sitting. Guns were drawn and shouting was occuring and people were coming from all directions. I needed to get off the phone and make sure we were safe. Of course we were fine and totally at peace, cause we were there with Jesus. I love any place where Jesus is. By the way, no shooting took place and the chase went down Five Mile to who knows where. And there's a new brother in the kingdom!
I'll call you tomorrow morning before 10:00 my time to continue our conversation."

the chicago police department has a website where you can map the number of crimes committed near your address within any date range. whenever i look, our old address in chicago's north loop has a much higher number of crimes than our current address, which is in a supposedly semi-dangerous area on the south side. now, you could argue that it is actually still more dangerous here, but since it is a tight knit ethnic community they don't report crimes...
